Mission

In 2025, more than 46,500 new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed in Washington State, with 365 of those in the Walla Walla Valley alone. These new cases will add to the over 1,500 individuals in our community currently battling cancer. All of them will require our support through their journey to becoming cancer free. This support extends beyond groundbreaking research and new treatment options, but also in the form of preventive services, treatment options and information, free transportation, and lodging.

In 2024 the American Cancer Society supported cancer patients and their families in Washington by:

• ACS provided 1,529 free rides to cancer patients in Washington and awarded $245,500 to local health partners for transportation and lodging support.
• ACS’s 30+ Hope Lodge communities across the country provide a free place to stay for those who must travel to treatment, including 1,253 free nights of lodging for Washingtonians.
• $9.15 million funding 15 research grants at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
